A man should wear a watch. Over the past few years I forgot this… but once I started exercising more and occasionally wearing my heart rate monitor watch, I remembered how convenient it is to glance at your wrist instead of pulling out your phone.
So I started getting my watches back in working order (cleaning them, replacing batteries, etc.). While I was looking for a watch repair tool kit, I stumbled on a great deal for this: Stuhrling Original Men’s Aquadiver Regatta Champion Professional Diver Watch and decided to pick it up.
This is my review of the Stuhrling Original Aquadiver Regatta Champion with the black dial and bezel.
Stuhrling Aquadiver Regatta Champion Review (395.33B11)
For the price I paid, I’m impressed. The Aquadiver feels durable, looks sharp, and wears like a “real” diver-style watch without the luxury-brand cost. The movement is a reputable Swiss quartz (Ronda 515), and the overall finishing is better than I expected in this price range.
Biggest downsides: the lume fades faster than I’d like, and Stuhrling’s pricing swings are… confusing.
- Excellent “value feel” for the sale price
- Swiss quartz movement (Ronda 515)
- Solid, secure deployment clasp
- Easy to read dial (bold markers + sword hands)
- Flat crystal sits low (less snagging)
- Lume is bright… but doesn’t last long
- Pricing jumps around a lot (hard to know “real” price)
- The presentation box is comically huge
Price Reality Check
At the time I bought it, the “list price vs. sale price” story was wild: Amazon showed a high list price, a “regular” price much lower, and a sale price lower still. I grabbed mine at an even deeper discount. Then the price bounced between roughly $70–$100 the same day.
If you’re considering it, wait a few days and watch the price. This is one of those products where the “deal” is half the product.
Swiss Quartz Movement: Ronda 515
This watch uses a Swiss-made quartz movement: the Ronda 515. It’s a genuine Swiss movement from a reputable manufacturer, and it’s commonly used in affordable watches.
A quick reality check: it’s not a high-end mechanical movement, and it’s not trying to be. It’s a reliable, accurate quartz setup that keeps good time without drama.
- Battery: SR920SW / “371” battery
- Claimed battery life: about 45 months
- Power save: pulling the crown out reduces consumption (but the watch won’t run in that position)
If you’re storing the watch for a long time, you can pull the crown to reduce battery drain — just remember water resistance is compromised with the crown out.
Build Quality and Styling
Considering what I paid, the finishing is genuinely nice. The Aquadiver comes with a stainless steel bracelet and a deployment clasp that feels secure: you open the safety latch, then press two side buttons to release.
The rotating bezel is what gives it the diver-watch vibe, and the coin-edge grip adds some sparkle and makes it easy to turn. This model is also available with different bezel/marker colors (I went with black).
Design Influences (Yes, You’re Seeing It Right)
The Aquadiver has its own look — big Arabic numerals at 12/3/6/9, bold indices, and the date window tucked between 4 and 5. But let’s not pretend it was designed in a vacuum. It borrows cues from iconic diver styles (Submariner/Sea-Dweller energy, plus a bit of Seamaster attitude).
Crystal and Readability
Stuhrling uses something they call Krysterna Crystal. The claim is: better than standard mineral, not quite sapphire. In practice, I like that it’s flat and sits low — it doesn’t feel like it’s begging to get caught on a sleeve.
The luminescent markers and sword hands are easy to read. The lume gets bright after light exposure, but it doesn’t stay bright for as long as I’d prefer.

My One Petty Complaint
The box is too damn big. Nice box, sure — but it could hold two or three more watches. I like keeping watch boxes, and this one hogs space like it pays rent.
Conclusion
I’ve almost pulled the trigger on very expensive luxury watches before… but I can’t justify it. For me, a watch is more tool than fashion. I don’t need to impress anyone with a wrist mortgage.
At the right sale price, the Stuhrling Aquadiver Regatta Champion is a tremendous value: good looks, solid feel, readable dial, and a Swiss quartz movement from a reputable maker.
